Keynote speakers

Daniel E. O’Leary is a professor at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, in the United States, working in the areas artificial intelligence and information systems. Dan is a former editor of IEEE Intelligent Systems and the current editor of Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance and Management. He is a co-author of the Paul Gray Award for the “Most Thought-Provoking Paper” in 2020, from the Association for Information Systems. He has been cited as creating a line of research involved with hiding knowledge in databases and privacy preservation and named a seminal contributor in knowledge management. Professor O’Leary is on the 2022 list of the Top 100,000 scientists, for both career and a single year. He is a Senior Member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and a former Research Fulbright Scholar in artificial intelligence and computer science in France. Dan’s current research includes large language models, their behavior, and applications.

Daniel E. O’Leary will be presenting: “AI for Good: Some ESG-based Examples”

ABSTRACT
There has been much concern about the dangers of AI. For example, a recent Google search found almost 300 million results to the simple quoted query, “evils of AI,” where those “evils” include job losses, deep fakes, privacy violations and many more concerns. Accordingly, the purpose of this discussion is to investigate the ability of AI to be used for positive purposes – “AI for Good.” In this discussion, I will review some recent approaches to using “AI for Good” in some ESG (environment, social and governance) applications. As part of that investigation, I will illustrate some emerging uses of large language models to help facilitate those applications, focusing on environment and governance applications.

 

Ernestina Menasalvas is a Computer Scientist and PhD in Computer Science. She leads the MIDAS “Data Mining and data simulation group” at the Center of Biotechnology in University Polytechnic of Madrid (UPM) and she is a databases and data mining professor at UPM. Associate Dean of studies and Associate Rector for Graduate Studies (2004-2012), actively participates in EIT-Digital and EIT-Health in special in the education activities. Co-leads the task force on skills in the BDVA-DAIRO. Her research integrates different aspects of data analytics; with the involvement in different real-world problems with special emphasis on health. She has participated actively in project development (H2020, FP7, EIT). She has published more than 40 papers in journals including Data and Knowledge Engineering Journal,  Physics Reports, Information Sciences, Expert Systems with applications and Journal of Medical Systems and International and actively participated in International Program Commitees.

ABSTRACT
Experience-based medicine is being replaced by an evidence-based, patient-centred approach. Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a new tool to improve such predictive capabilities in the laboratory and clinic. ELADAIS enhances healthcare by integrating and analyzing real-world data using AI. This talk explores its role in improving predictive analytics, empowering patients, and personalizing care. The ultimate goal is to develop versatile services that transcend specific clinical record systems or data storage standards, enabling widespread benefits in healthcare management and patient engagement.

 

Kieran Towey is Managing Director, Data Scientist and KPMG Applied Intelligence lead. Kieran has 25 years’ experience working as a Data Scientist, delivering data powered solutions to large global and domestic clients. Kieran has a mathematics and statistics academic background and 20 years global experience working as a Management Consultant in the field of Advanced Analytics & AI, with KPMG, Accenture, AON and SPSS. Further, Kieran has published academic papers, holds an AI patent in the field of combatting money laundering using graph analytics, has been Principal Investigator for foundational research with MIT and The Alan Turing Institute and had lead 100s of analytics and AI projects for business clients, delivering business value through intelligence led decision making.

ABSTRACT
My keynote speech will focus on how “data driven decision making” has evolved over the course of my lifetime and what current developments mean for the future. I’ll discuss lessons learned along the way, successes and failures and what we need to consider to ensure we safeguard the decision making processes of the future. In a world of exponential growth in the capability of AI, how do we harness that power and use if for good!
